The hopes and dreams of those you spoke with today came alive with your description.

If only Americans could hear and appreciate the struggles of Palestinians that are made more difficult by our government's reluctance to stand firm against the Israelis. It is no wonder that they equate Israel with the USoA - we fund everything. The New York Times just ran a story of USoA financial support of the 'separate but equal' settlement road system. One road for Israelis and another for Palestinians - an apartheid road system! Only George Orwell could have dreamed up something more bizarre than this.

On to Istanbul. I bet that your interrogation at the Tel Aviv airport by Israeli security will be energetic. "Have you spoken with any Palestinians? Who? Why? Did they give you anything?" ... all the while holding your passport as a threat that they just might not give it back to you. I have the exact wrong personality for such questions. I have learned to give only the briefest of answers to satisfy the querie - while trying to maintain a compliant attitude. No small task.
Good luck.Michael Hartneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12216977307302745415noreply@blogger.com
